Meet Our Founder

Coach. Educator. Strategist.

Hi! I'm Stephanie Vaught - Founder of Social Money Finance.

I created Social Money Finance because I saw a gap in the marketplace - specifically among Gen X Women. No one was talking to us about our money! Many GenXers want to feel confident about their money and build wealth for themselves and their families.

I specialize in teaching GenX women how to HAVE more money for the life they want. I do that by helping you identify and UNLEARN any limiting beliefs or money habits that might be holding you back from the life you want.

Money is a tool. And the way we use it is often a reflection of what we believe to be true about our life and capabilities. Therefore, any changes you wish to make starts with improving of your relationship with money - it's all connected.

My Back Story

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, I attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated with a B.A. in Political Science Pre-law from Michigan State University in 2000. After some time working and learning, I went on to earn a Juris Doctor from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 2007.

With a career in legal research and writing, contracts, and community advocacy, I became profoundly interested in personal finance. I realized I didn't learn financial literacy growing up and wanted to get really good at managing my money. I also realized that making "a lot of money" doesn't guarantee you financial freedom!

Therefore, in 2009, I read and taught myself everything I could about budgeting, money mindset, and optimal money management.

In 2015, I formally changed careers and became a certified financial coach providing financial coaching and education to thousands of people across the U.S. for 4 years.

Additionally, after hundreds of discussions with my Gen X peers, I realized that many of us never learned about finances in our formative years. As a result, we likely made unwise financial choices that many are still working hard to recover from.

Therefore, in 2018, I founded Social Money Finance with a mission was to help alleviate the financial stress and uncertainty felt by many GenXers and help us build confidence in our ability to earn and grow wealth.

"You are WORTHY of creating the life you want. The way forward is through your money."

Social Money Finance Values

who we are & why we serve

You deserve to be seen, heard, and valued.

When mainstream media reports on money, life, business, and other unique experiences of each generation, they skip right over Generation X - especially Gen X Women!

We decided to change that.

We understand the unique challenges that exist among Gen X Women, and it deserves to be acknowledged and supported:

  • You have been there - done that and have at least 25 years of work experience to prove it.

  • You are the caregiver of both your aging Boomer parents and Gen Z children....at the same time.

  • You tend to put yourself last to care for everyone else.

  • You struggle with the confidence and courage to pursue your most desired dreams and goals.

  • You feel anxious and uncertain about your financial future.

  • You want financial freedom to do more what you WANT!
