Hi! I'm Stephanie Vaught - Founder of Social Money Finance.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
I created Social Money Finance because I saw a gap in the marketplace - specifically among Gen X Women. No one was talking to us about our money! Many GenXers want to get their finances in order and build wealth for themselves and their families.
I specialize in money management because it is a necessary component to building and sustaining wealth. I help you identify your money mindset and UNLEARN any limiting beliefs or unproductive money habits that might be holding you back from the life you want. I also teach you practical money management skills to help you build a life you love.
Money is an emotional experience for all of us. Therefore, any changes you wish to make in your life starts with an understanding of your relationship with money - it's all connected.
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, I attended Detroit Public Schools. I earned a Bachelors in Political Science Pre-law from Michigan State University in 2000 and a Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School (now Western Michigan Law School) in 2007. My career and background is in legal research and writing, contracts, and community advocacy.
In 2009, while still in the legal field, I became profoundly interested in personal finance. I wanted to learn how to manage my money, as I didn't formally learn these skills growing up. I also realized two things: I never wanted to be as broke as I was in law school, AND making "a lot of money" doesn't guarantee you financial freedom! Therefore, I read everything I could and taught myself budgeting, money mindset principles, and optimal money management.
In 2015, I changed careers and trained to become a certified financial coach. I provided financial coaching and education to thousands of people across the country for more than 4 years.
Additionally, through hundreds of discussions with my Gen X peers, I realized that many of us never learned financial literacy in our formative years. As a result, we likely made unwise financial decisions and now find ourselves working hard to recover from those choices.
Therefore, in 2018, I created Social Money Finance to help build financial confidence and alleviate stress and uncertainty felt by many GenXers. I provide you with a road map of effective money management principles to help you expand your financial knowledge, improve your money habits, and fulfill your financial goals.
At my core, I love encouraging people and helping them realize the power within themselves. I also love curating environments that inspire connection and community. My purpose is to help you to lean into your power, put your financial future front and center, and build a life you love.
